2022 RAM 1500 Review, Pricing & Release Date
Few trucks bring together capability and comfort quite as effectively as the Ram 1500. Boasting standard engine outputs of up to 395 horsepower set alongside high-end interior technology such as 12" infotainment touchscreens, the Ram offers a driving experience that's unrivalled in the half-ton market.
But no matter how successful the current 2021 models are, there's always room for improvement, and Ram has indicated that the next 2022 Ram 1500 lineup will be an even more enticing prospect. Read our short review to see what the next Ram 1500 model refresh is likely to bring to the highly competitive mid-size truck market.
New Trailer Monitoring
The Ram 15000 already features some great trailer capabilities, with a maximum towing capacity of 5,873kg backed up by advanced features including electronic trailer sway control and brake control, but the 2022 model is set to go even further. A new Trailer 360 View camera system allows up to four cameras to be mounted on and around the load, connecting to a control module in the cab up to 16 metres away for complete visibility of the trailer and surrounding road.
The kit can be fitted to any truck in the Ram range - the 1500, 2500, and 3500 all included - and consists of cameras, camera mounts, wiring, and the control module itself.
Bio-Filtered Climate Control
In a move that's clearly prompted by the pandemic, Ram is rumoured to be adding N95 biofilters to the climate control system, resulting in cleaner, safer air in the cabin. And while the coronavirus might be the main target, it's a feature that will surely be appreciated by all Ram drivers who work in dusty or polluted conditions of any kind.
New Trim Upgrades
There will be three new upgrade packages available for various trims across the 2022 Ram 1500 range. The G/T package can be added to the Laramie and Rebel trims, and includes many of the performance features of the high-end Ram TRX model, albeit without the searing 700+ horsepower. The G/T group includes a cold-air intake, cat-back exhaust, paddle shifters, and a floor-mounted shifter stick. Also, the infotainment package has been upgraded to include a performance page displaying a huge amount of real-time engineering data that can also be download to a USB stick for later analysis.
The BackCountry Edition can be added to the Big Horn and Lone Star trims, and beefs up the off-road capabilities with upgraded suspension, all-terrain tires, skid plates, an electronic rear differential, and a hill descent control feature.
And as a final extra option, the 10th Anniversary Edition adds extra-plush materials to the interior, along with exclusive badging and unique Blue Shade exterior bodywork.
2022 Ram 1500 Review Conclusion
The Ram 1500 is already a runaway winner in the Canadian half-ton market, but the 2022 refresh seems set to reach new heights. Don't expect a revolutionary new powertrain or a total exterior redesign, but the many major and minor improvements will push this near-perfect pickup even closer to the half-ton ideal.
